The Two Layers A Free Culture Must Have

There are, or should be minimally, two layers to a society/culture: the common "value" core, and the "whatever floats your boat" layers.

The former binds us together and anchors us to a set of common, simple, and very basic propositions. The latter, through the agency of the former, leave you free to pursue your goals as you please, presumably without unwanted and unjustifiable interference from outside sources.

Society should require enough common commitment to protect coexistence, but not so much conformity that coexistence becomes compulsory sameness.

Freedom ain't rocket surgery.

Until next time, please accept my best wishes.
